‘Waiting for Charlie’

Recently retired community midwife, Jan Menell,
has written and published her first novel, Waiting for Charlie,
about rural life and village affairs during her time in Littlebury Green.

Her editorial debut tells how Maggie Edwards, a midwife, and her boyfriend, Robert Groves escape to the country to experience the challenges of rural life, encouraged by their elderly neighbour, Charlie Watt.

Maggie, despite her sadness following several miscarriages, continues to teach for the NCT, and pursue her midwifery career. The story is enhanced by their involvement in village activities.  The ominous arrival of hare coursers and a spate of burglaries affect the whole community.

Eventually Maggie rejoices in pregnancy again, but her delight is mixed as Charlie Watt is slow to recover from a fall – a matter of concern to everyone…
